After all, what better way to relax at home than by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thepencompany.live\/blog\/writing\/how-writing-can-help-mental-wellbeing\/\">writing<\/a> and crafting with the family?<\/p>\n<p>A topic I don\u2019t think we\u2019ve touched on before on our blog is rubber stamping. Rubber stamps can be great for crafting and are available in three main types:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Self-inking<\/li>\n<li>Pre-inked<\/li>\n<li>Wooden-handled<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>There are two categories of rubber stamp \u2014 business rubber stamps and crafting rubber stamps and, in this blog post, we\u2019ll be focusing on the crafting variety.<\/p>\n<p>While rubber stamps are a wonderful addition to many crafts, they can be costly to purchase, and so this article is dedicated to stamping without rubber stamps for all of you who are on a budget.<\/p>\n<p>I think you\u2019ll be surprised at the items you can use to create unique patterns and shapes on your projects.<\/p>\n<p>So, let\u2019s look at how to stamp without rubber stamps.<\/p>\n<h2>1.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Potato stamping<\/h2>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-4701\" src=\"https:\/\/www.thepencompany.live\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/potato-printing-stamping-heart-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"potato stamping with a heart shaped potato\" width=\"650\" height=\"434\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.thepencompany.live\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/potato-printing-stamping-heart-1024x683.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.thepencompany.live\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/potato-printing-stamping-heart-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.thepencompany.live\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/potato-printing-stamping-heart-768x512.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.thepencompany.live\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/potato-printing-stamping-heart-150x100.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.thepencompany.live\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/potato-printing-stamping-heart.jpg 1600w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 650px) 100vw, 650px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The potato is a classic stamping choice, and kids at primary school often use this method because it is easy to do and fun, too.<\/p>\n<p>To create your stamp, you can either use a sharp knife (adults only) to cut a shape into the potato or press a cookie cutter into the potato and then cut away the surrounding pieces of potato that you don\u2019t want to show on your stamp.<\/p>\n<p>Once you have cut your potato, you will need to work fast, as once it starts to dry out, the stamping will become more uneven.<\/p>\n<p>You can either use an old ink pad (as you won\u2019t want starch in your favourite ink pad) or paint with your potato stamp. When it comes to paint, choose a thick one and either paint it directly onto the stamp with a brush or pour some onto a plate and dip your stamp in it.<\/p>\n<p>Use fabric paint to open up a whole new world of project options.<\/p>\n<h2>2.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Fingerprint stamping<\/h2>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-4702\" src=\"https:\/\/www.thepencompany.live\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/fingerprint-stamping-art-1024x659.jpg\" alt=\"fingerprint art, making animals from fingerprint stamps\" width=\"650\" height=\"418\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.thepencompany.live\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/fingerprint-stamping-art-1024x659.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.thepencompany.live\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/fingerprint-stamping-art-300x193.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.thepencompany.live\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/fingerprint-stamping-art-768x494.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.thepencompany.live\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/fingerprint-stamping-art-150x96.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.thepencompany.live\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/fingerprint-stamping-art.jpg 1600w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 650px) 100vw, 650px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>You were born with ten wonderfully unique stamps \u2014 your fingertips!<\/p>\n<p>All you need in addition is an ink pad and a marker pen \u2014 we\u2019d recommend the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thepencompany.live\/product\/staedtler-pigment-liner-6-pack\/14611\/\">Staedtler Pigment Liners<\/a>, or you might already have some markers to hand.<\/p>\n<p>Press your fingertips into the ink pad and press down onto your paper. Then, take a pen and use it to create characters out of the fingerprints. Use the ideas above to get started.<\/p>\n<p>So simple, but really fun!<\/p>\n<h2>3.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Bubblewrap stamping<\/h2>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-4703\" src=\"https:\/\/www.thepencompany.live\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/blue-bubble-wrap-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"blue bubble wrap\" width=\"650\" height=\"434\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.thepencompany.live\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/blue-bubble-wrap-1024x683.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.thepencompany.live\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/blue-bubble-wrap-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.thepencompany.live\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/blue-bubble-wrap-768x512.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.thepencompany.live\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/blue-bubble-wrap-150x100.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.thepencompany.live\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/blue-bubble-wrap.jpg 1600w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 650px) 100vw, 650px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>If you\u2019ve got a project that requires a simple stamped pattern, then bubble wrap is the perfect solution; however, you can also have a lot of fun with bubble wrap, too.<\/p>\n<p>With the kids, cut out simple shapes from cardboard and then glue them to the bubblewrap (flat size to the cardboard) and cut the bubble wrap around the cardboard shape.<\/p>\n<p>Next, you need to apply paint (or several colours of paint) to the textured side of the bubble wrap. Either use a paintbrush to apply the paint to the bubble wrap or pour the paint onto a plate and dip the shape into it.<\/p>\n<p>Then, press the bubble wrap firmly onto your project, and you\u2019re done!<\/p>\n<p>Do you have any other ideas for stamping without rubber stamps?
