Their nibs are consistently smooth, smooth, smooth. The Faber-Castell E-motion (parquet version) was my first Faber-Castell fountain pen. I love how that pen feels in hand, so it stands to reason that I&#8217;d love the E-motion ballpoint just as much. So do I?<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thepencompany.live\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/P1060395.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-1663\" src=\"https:\/\/www.thepencompany.live\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/P1060395-1024x622.jpg\" alt=\"Faber-Castell e-motion ballpoint\" width=\"650\" height=\"395\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>There are plenty of pen lovers who swear off ballpoint pens in favor of gel or fountain pens, but that&#8217;s not me. I&#8217;m as thrilled by a great feeling and performing ballpoint as I am by a sweet, smooth fountain pen\u2014as long as it&#8217;s well-made, feels good to hold, and lays down a consistent and dark line. Bonus points for it taking Parker-compatible refills, like the Schmidt EasyFlow 9000.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thepencompany.live\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/P1060431.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-1670\" src=\"https:\/\/www.thepencompany.live\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/P1060431-1024x501.jpg\" alt=\"Faber-Castell e-motion ballpoint pen\" width=\"650\" height=\"318\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thepencompany.live\/product\/faber-castell-e-motion-ballpoint-pen\/859\/\">Faber-Castell Pearwood E-motion ballpoint pen<\/a> hits all of those points and then some. The pen measures 5.0 inches (12.8 cm), which sounds short, but really isn&#8217;t. The chunky torpedo shape feels very natural in your hand\u2014 thick where it feels good to be thick, and thin where it feels good to be thin. Weighing a substantial 32.5 g, the e-motion\u00a0is\u00a0weighted in such a way that the balance is spot on.\u00a0There&#8217;s a heft that makes your brain immediately think &#8220;quality.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thepencompany.live\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/P1060432.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-1671\" src=\"https:\/\/www.thepencompany.live\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/P1060432-1024x786.jpg\" alt=\"Faber-Castell e-motion ballpoint\" width=\"650\" height=\"499\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The writing tip extends with a simple twist of the smartly polished end cap. The spring-loaded clip is graceful curved and surprisingly sturdy. There&#8217;s not a wiggle to be found anywhere on this pen.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thepencompany.live\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/P1060444.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-1672\" src=\"https:\/\/www.thepencompany.live\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/P1060444-1024x653.jpg\" alt=\"Faber-Castell e-mtion ballpoint\" width=\"650\" height=\"415\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The pear wood body is warm, smooth, and rich looking\u2014 like good furniture. The E-motion mixes two very different looks\u2014industrial chrome alongside polished wood. The look is both organic and modern at the same time\u2014really striking.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thepencompany.live\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/P1060373.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-1660\" src=\"https:\/\/www.thepencompany.live\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/P1060373-1024x349.jpg\" alt=\"Faber-Castell e-motion ballpoint\" width=\"650\" height=\"222\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I love the wood so much that I&#8217;m very protective of it. This isn&#8217;t a pen that I&#8217;d carry in my pocket where that gorgeous wood might get scratched by keys or coins. I&#8217;d hate to build up a &#8220;patina&#8221; of scratches, but that&#8217;s just me.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thepencompany.live\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/P1060391.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-1661\" src=\"https:\/\/www.thepencompany.live\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/P1060391-1024x746.jpg\" alt=\"Disassembled\" width=\"650\" height=\"474\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The E-motion takes a Parker-style refill. I was prepared to swap in my favorite\u2014the Schmidt EasyFlow 9000\u2014but the included Faber-Castell one (black\/broad) turned out to be excellent\u2014smooth and dark. No need to swap.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thepencompany.live\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/IMG_0170.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-1667\" src=\"https:\/\/www.thepencompany.live\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/IMG_0170-1024x1024.jpg\" alt=\"Faber-Castell e-motion ballpoint\" width=\"650\" height=\"650\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The pear wood E-motion ballpoint pen is smart-looking, great feeling, and smooth writing. It&#8217;s yet\u00a0<em>another<\/em> winner from Faber-Castell, a company that&#8217;s been around since 1761. They obviously know what they&#8217;re doing.
